Think about the time you went to the mall and saw an item you had to buy. What was it about the item that caught your attention?

Write down the reasons why you were drawn to the item. Explain to students the purpose of a cover letter.

Tie in the hook — letter is like a sales letter that should attract employers to call you the applicant. Ask a student to read definition aloud from textbook.

Teach the Introduction, Middle, and Closing. List the 5 parts on board to help students visualize. Teachers ask the class to predict what will happen in the story based on the cover illustrations.

Read the story to the class, interjecting conversational guided questions where appropriate. To increase comprehension, ask the children to touch their ear whenever they hear the name of an animal. Point to the picture of the animal, and repeat the name as the children touch their ears again.

This creates a visual link to the sound of the word and its printed form. Here is a suggested list of discussion questions to use with the story: What happened when the two ladybugs landed on the same leaf?

Why did the grouchy ladybug fly away? Why does the ladybug want to fight? What does the ladybug say to the animals?
